Journalist

Hours: Full time, 37 hours a week, 9-5.30pm
Salary: According to experience.
Location: Bishop's Stortford

We are seeking a full-time journalist to work on medical and aerospace journals, magazines, directories and web sites.

You will have at least three years' experience in journalism, the highest standard of literacy, and the ability to cope with tight deadlines. Full current driving licence essential.

Commissioning Editor

Hours: Part time, Flexible around 20 hours a week
Salary: According to experience.
Location: Bishop's Stortford

We are seeking an experienced publishing professional to work on our medical journals.

This role will involve: Liaising with authors and editorial boards; Ensuring journals meet high medical and literary standards; Being responsible for the overall production of journals; Commissioning articles and editorials and then chasing them in; Sending articles out for review to the medical and nursing editors and independent reviewers; Liaising with authors regarding amendments or rejection of articles; Proofing and subbing the articles that are accepted for publication; Sourcing photographs from authors; Attending conferences to raise the profile of the journals, source authors for articles and liaise with potential advertisers.

Ideal skills required:

  • Medical, pharmacy or pharmacology degree, nursing qualification or medical publishing experience.
  • Excellent medical editing and proofing skills
  • Strong organisational and scheduling skills
  • Understanding of journal procedures and author approval processes.
  • Good communication and management skills and the ability to talk with authority on clinical subjects.
  • Ability to cope with deadlines
